Steroid Pool

There was a poll on ESPN yesterday about how many players would get busted for steroids this season, wanted to see what AN thought about that.

So make your guesses in the poll below, how many players, and who, will be outed by MLB steroid testing this season?

I'm betting on 8 guys being outed this year (by end of December) and receiving 10 game suspensions.

My guess at names: Bobby Abreu, Russell Branyan, Ryan Klesko, Preston Wilson, Michael Barrett, Joe Borchard, Dustin Mohr & Brad Penny. I wanted to pick more pitchers, but then I ended up with too many guys and had to cut people like Vinnie Chulk.

Only Athletic I considered for this was Byrnesie, but I had enough other guys and I don't want it to be true about Eric, so I tossed him off.

Let the Steroid Pool begin. Remember who you pick so you can claim "victory" at the end of the season.

Makes Me Uncomfortable
I know we're not journalists here and, thus, there are no standards, but I just think it's wrong to randomly accuse guys.

hear what you're saying, but....
these aren't even rumors, just complete shots in the dark. it's all in good fun. I'll be shocked if any of my predicted guys actually do test positive.

We'll never know
I saw the poll posted on ESPN and didn't bother to answer it because the question isn't how many players are using steroids, its how many will get busted.  From what I hear in the media, the testing is fairly weak and doesn't screen for human growth hormones at all.  There's enough loopholes for a fairly intelligent player with the right "trainer" to evade detection.  Thus I answered this poll "the dumb/deperate."  They'd have to be dumb and/or desperate to get caught.

Who knows?
But let's not name names. What do we know? Even Jose Canseco, who has experience with steroids and was in MLB, doesn't have credibility when naming names. Why should we do it?

We can speculate all we want in private conversations, but not online. Not on AN.

Scott Spezio
This guy was the most obvious steriod user, yet no one talks about him.  He started his career with the A's as a utility/2nd Basemen, bulked up, and starting hitting bombs in Anaheim.  After signing a long-term deal with Seattle, Spiezio somehow lost about 25 lbs. and hit two jacks last year...

Does anyone else think that this guy was the most obvious steriod user (besides Barry) in the entire league?

Sammy
My money is on Sammy Sosa as the 1st Player to get nabbed w/ Steroids in his system.  He's a known cheater, and he'll probably end up blaming his steroid detection on his own personal trainer.   Didn't he blame the bat boy for the corked bat incident?

Other possibilities/odds:

Barry Bonds   10-1
Sammy Sosa    15-1
Gary Sheffield   20-1
Richie Sexson 25-1
Roger Clemens  35-1
Phil Nevin  50-1
Jason Giambi  250-1

Let's Go Oak-Land!
