This is interesting...from baseball prospectus:

Top 5 2005 AL Defensive Left Fielders, by PECOTA Projected Fielding Runs

Carl Crawford TBA 136 7
Charles Thomas OAK 79 3
Reed Johnson TOR 110 2
Eric Byrnes OAK 138 1
Larry Bigbie BAL 113 1

I cannot couch for their defensive metric, but any system that ranks Byrnes that high must be questioned. Still, this is an interesting result.

This brings up an article in the Chron from a week ago. Bobby Cox said "Charles Thomas is the best defensive outfielder i have ever seen" Thats the same Bobby Cox whos has been in baseball for 30 or more years.

The Mets,

with Beltran in CF and Cameron in RF, would certainly be better than the A's defensively, even taking a hit on the Floyd/Thomas-Byrnes trade-off in LF.
