Vida DUI

From Si.com

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/baseball/mlb/03/15/bc.bbo.blue.dui.ap/index.html

Former Oakland A's star Vida Blue was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence following a minor traffic accident.

Blue, the 1971 American League MVP and Cy Young winner, was arrested early Sunday after officers called to the accident scene noticed he was impaired, Scottsdale police Sgt. Mark Clark said Tuesday.

The 55-year-old Blue was booked for investigation of DUI and released several hours later. The results of the blood alcohol test were not available Tuesday.

No one was injured in the accident, Clark said.

Blue, a six-time All-Star, played 17 seasons with Oakland, San Francisco and Kansas City before retiring in 1986.

Happens to everyone.  They'll get you someday.

Now will they change those terrible radio spots to have Vida say,

"I everybody this is your old pal, drunk car Vida"?

Drunk Car
I was thinking of a good "Junk Car/Jr. Giants" joke but you beat me to the punch, and with a better one too.

Vida Blue
Anyone else notice lately that when something bad happens to a player that was once on the A's, they always refer to him as "Former A's Player X" instead of any other team he was on or is now associated with? I mean, Vida Blue is working for the Giants right now. Jose Canseco is a former RedSock, Yankee, BlueJay, Ranger and Devil Ray, but he's always refered to as Former Athletic. Even Jason Giambi is, more then half the time, refered to as that guy from Oakland. McGwire is refered to as an EX-A when something bad happens, and a Cardinal when something good does.

Its like the media is detirmined to stick it to the A's. Why couldnt they have lined it "Jr. Giants executive Vida Blue arrested with DUI"

True with McGwire...
but both Giambi and Canseco had their greatest collective years in A's unis.  I think that's why they do it.

To expand on Blez's point
Vida Blue played for the A's for over half of his career.  Also his some of his best years and his only 20+ win seasons were with Oakland.  He also got 3 WS rings, AL MVP and AL Cy Young with Oakland.

All he got from the Giants his that "Junk Car" gig of his.

Even though Vida is now a shill for the Giants.  I've always envisioned Vida the player as a member of the Oakland A's.

ex-A's
with McGwire, Canseco and Giambi, it's probably because the A's were Ground Zero for steroids, especially in '88 and '97.

Too bad
Vida is one of those "coulda" players.  Had he stayed out of trouble he coulda been a HOFer.

Vida is good guy
I know Vida, and he is a good man.  He is not the sharpest tool in the shed, but those ridiculous radio spots really do capture Vida's jovial and congenial disposition.  He has never shirked responsibility for his transgressions or problems, and he has done the right thing in others that never made media headlines.  I am glad no one was hurt and wish him all the best.
