In a recent issue of Baseball America, former Rangers GM Tom Grieve was quoted, "I'm convinced (Jose Canseco) would have been nothing more than a marginal utility outfielder if he had not used steroids. He squandered a fortune and made an embarassment of himself."
Now, Grieve's obviously biased opinion of Canseco notwithstanding ... regardless of how you feel about Canseco the person, there is no denying his immense God-given talent ..... isn't this an admission by Grieve that,at least in his opinion, steroids can have a huge impact on performance??
I would be interested to hear how he feels steroids impacted the performances of players such as McGwire and Bonds ..... if he were to claim he doesn't think these two used steroids, then any integrity he expects his opinions to have would be completely lost.
I'm surprised this quote was not given more attention. Your thoughts?
