Barton with appendicitis

For those of you who may have missed it, buried in the "Barton is a happy camper" thread, but socalbaseballfan, a.k.a. Daric Barton's dad, said that Daric is in the hospital right now and will have to operated for apendicitis. He announced it over on the A's insider/fanhome board too. It probably ends Daric's ST as he'll probably only be ready to play sometime in April.

Truth?
So he really is Barton's dad?  I got the impression that he is just some guy playing around and saying that he's Barton's dad.
I guess we'll find out tomorrow if his scoop is legit.

Well
There is precedent... those of you who used to hang out on the A's official website might remember Ted Lilly's dad, who used to post there regularly.

But at least..
Lilly was in the big club at the time.

Yeah but...
Why would you lie about being Daric Barton's dad?  Besides he post was "Daric's in the hospital."  And didn't "brag" about the fact that he's his dad.

I guess we'll find out tomorrow too.

Here's to a speedy recovery, not too speedy, that would mean he's on 'roids.

Dad
Oaktown, you're the one that originally identified him as Barton's dad, did you speak to him personally?  I'm not saying anyone is lying, I'm just curious where you got the information because he never said himself that he is Barton's dad.

Over on the insiders' board
He originally posted to the A's insider board, formerly known as the fanhome board, now known as oaklandclubhouse.com. Here's the thread... Specifically check out cabaseballfan's second post.

If it's true ..
I hope the surgery goes well and that Daric has a speedy recovery!

Here's to a quick recovery
I would like to wish Daric the best. I will definitely drive up to Stockton to see him, I just hope he doesn't hit too well there, because I'm not driving to Midland.

Isn't he in AA Midland?

I don't think that's been decided
Daric tore the cover off the ball at the Low-A Midwest League last year, so, unless he skips the High-A California League, then he will probably start at Stockton. Stockton would seem like the place for him to start the season, unless Billy Beane has let Mr. Barton know that he will skip a level.

THE REAL DEAL
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/wire?section=mlb&id=2001607

PHOENIX -- Oakland Athletics catching prospect Daric Barton was taken to a hospital Sunday night with appendicitis and was scheduled to have surgery.

Team spokesman Jim Young said Barton is expected to return to camp sometime this spring. He had already been limited with an elbow injury.

Barton was acquired by the A's in December from St. Louis in the trade that sent ace Mark Mulder to the NL champion Cardinals.

Barton
He had surgery on that elbow last pre-season too. I think it was later on though, because he missed the start of the season. I hope this isn't a long term thing.

I don't think it's that much
of a setback. Surgery for appendicitis (the non-bursty kind) is a routine operation for a temporary, if painful, problem--the end result being he will be forced to rest his elbow rather than playing too soon and aggravating it.

yep
i think the "our thoughts and prayers are with you" posts are a bit much given that it's a minor surgery.

i was thinking the same thing, at least the elbow will get some time to heal now.  why the hell are they still letting him catch?

But still...
Complications can happen.  A fridn of mine had the same proceedure.  Athough the complications weren't serious he was messed up for a few months and was on painkillers.
