Ode to the Third Deck

It had to happen. Baseball; idiosyncratic, enchanting and timeless, loves to sell the charm of Baseball to Johnny Lunchbox, but sells itself out in the end. The charming, relaxing-open- Sooooo!!! open upper deck will be sorely missed by this lone wolf. The views and the opportunity to glance at all the angles of how a great game develops is now gone. I love the chance to be alone at the Ballpark. The third deck gave you the chance to move when some jerk started jabbering on his cell-phone. Baseball is about contemplation. I shudder at the thought of sitting next to one of them. Candlestick Park and the Oakland-Alameda County Stadium are the places we all went and saw everyone from Terry Whitfield  to Tejada. These new 'cozy' stadiums bring in that wrong crowd. It is worth it for them to stay, of course. But ANOTHER HOK boring stadium? Where's my transitor?
