Any News On Frank Thomas?

Has anyone heard anything if the A's are still interested in Frank Thomas.

Star-divide

After the Bradley trade I haven't heard any news about the A's still being interested in Frank Thomas. Now that the A's have Bradley in Right that means Swisher goes to First and Johnson is the DH. There seems like there is no room for the A's to add Thomas. If they do it means either Swish or DJ will have to sit or they are going to have to trade Payton. They can't trade Kielty because that means Payton will have to sit on the bench and he won't stand for that like he didn't in Boston.

last article I read said....
It was at Pro sports daily.

I think it was a Minn. paper that said Thomas was heading to the A's.

That was it nothing more but, it was nice to see.

Other than that I haven't seen or heard anything on XM radio (MLB-Homeplate)about him coming to us.

Funny, but...
I was just talking to Annie (all her buds call her Annie) at our weekly lunch at KFC, and she didn't mention you, except to say that she had had a fabulous tryst.  Then Li'l Kim walked in with her new main sqeeze Philip Roth, and Kimmie said that Phil was all excited about the A's upcoming season.

My translation
Frank Thomas is looking for a two year deal. He won't find one in Oakland. If no one offers him a two year deal than we'll be interested again.

Well here's something I just found
from ESPN's "Rumors"

"Dec 16 - Oakland's trade for Milton Bradley this week doesn?t slam the door on their pursuit of Frank Thomas. But indications are that if the A?s do add Thomas, they would have to trade an outfielder to open sufficient playing time for him, ESPN.com's Jayson Stark reports.
Without Thomas, Oakland would move Nick Swisher to first base, where he and Dan Johnson would split time and also DH. But if Thomas became part of that mix, Swisher would have to go back to the outfield, where there wouldn't be enough room for him, Bradley, Mark Kotsay, Bobby Kielty and Jay Payton. Kielty would seem to be most likely to be dealt.

Clubs interested in Thomas are waiting on a January medical report which is expected to clear him to run and resume most baseball activities."

Look at the question...
When IN January this medical report will come out?

by Zabat on Dec 16, 2005 2:00 PM PST up reply actions

don't forget...
...we still have Charles Thomas taking space in our system, as well. No trade value, unfortunately.

by sarchasmic on Dec 16, 2005 11:28 AM PST reply actions

But...
Charles is in our 40-man roster and wouldn't make the 25-man roster. Frank Thomas needs to be on the 25-man roster to be in our 25-man Roster.

Here's an estimation of our 25-roster with Thomas:

Pitchers:
Joe Blanton
Kiko Calero
Justin Duchscherer
Rich Harden
Danny Haren
Joe Kennedy
Esteban Loaiza
Kirk Saarloos
Huston Street
Jay Witasick
Barry Zito

Catchers:
Jason Kendall
Adam Melhuse

Infielders:
Eric Chavez
Bobby Crosby
Mark Ellis
Dan Johnson
Antonio Perez
Marco Scutaro

Outfielders:
Milton Bradley
Bobby Kielty
Mark Kotsay
Jay Payton
Nick Swisher

Designated Hitter:
Frank Thomas

Without Frank Thomas we would probably put another Lefty into the Bullpen. (Either John Rheinecker or Ron Flores whichever looks better in the spring.)

by Zabat on Dec 16, 2005 12:28 PM PST up reply actions

This is great...
We are one of the few teams that don't even need to improve anymore.

Sure getting Frank Thomas would add some pop to the lineup but we don't really. I am content with DJ the DH.
Yes, I would rather see him at first and and Swish in right with Bradley in left and Payton out of the green and gold, but we will be fine without it.

by Zabat on Dec 16, 2005 4:37 PM PST reply actions

Imagine this lineup
  1. Kendall C   (R)
  2. Kotsay  CF  (L)
  3. Bradley LF  (S)
  4. Chavez  3rd (L)
  5. Thomas  DH  (R)
  6. Johnson 1st (L)
  7. Crosby  SS  (R)
  8. Swisher RF  (S)
  9. Ellis   2nd (R)
That would dominate.

by Zabat on Dec 16, 2005 4:42 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah I was thinkin ...
..where to hit MB?  2nd or 3rd ...I like yours actually cuz I like Chavy cleaning up, w/ or w/o the Big Hurt. I'd lead off Ellis and hit Kendall 9th until he shows he can hit .300 again, or if Ellis turns into a pumpkin at midnight (NO!).

by TheBigO on Dec 16, 2005 11:34 PM PST reply actions

Hold On...
Kendall did prove he could hit .300 at the end of the season. Ellis is the one who needs to prove to me that he is going to be able to emulate that season again. That's why I would bat him 9th.
