Any News On Frank Thomas?
Has anyone heard anything if the A's are still interested in Frank Thomas.
After the Bradley trade I haven't heard any news about the A's still being interested in Frank Thomas. Now that the A's have Bradley in Right that means Swisher goes to First and Johnson is the DH. There seems like there is no room for the A's to add Thomas. If they do it means either Swish or DJ will have to sit or they are going to have to trade Payton. They can't trade Kielty because that means Payton will have to sit on the bench and he won't stand for that like he didn't in Boston.

last article I read said....
I think it was a Minn. paper that said Thomas was heading to the A's.
That was it nothing more but, it was nice to see.
Other than that I haven't seen or heard anything on XM radio (MLB-Homeplate)about him coming to us.
The A's are monitering the situation

My translation
Well here's something I just found
"Dec 16 - Oakland's trade for Milton Bradley this week doesn?t slam the door on their pursuit of Frank Thomas. But indications are that if the A?s do add Thomas, they would have to trade an outfielder to open sufficient playing time for him, ESPN.com's Jayson Stark reports.
Without Thomas, Oakland would move Nick Swisher to first base, where he and Dan Johnson would split time and also DH. But if Thomas became part of that mix, Swisher would have to go back to the outfield, where there wouldn't be enough room for him, Bradley, Mark Kotsay, Bobby Kielty and Jay Payton. Kielty would seem to be most likely to be dealt.
Clubs interested in Thomas are waiting on a January medical report which is expected to clear him to run and resume most baseball activities."
I understand the NYT ...

Kirk Saarloos
Huston Street
Jay Witasick
Barry Zito

Jason Kendall
Adam Melhuse
Infielders:

Dan Johnson

Outfielders:
Milton Bradley
Bobby Kielty
Mark Kotsay
Jay Payton
Nick Swisher
Designated Hitter:
Frank Thomas
Without Frank Thomas we would probably put another Lefty into the Bullpen. (Either John Rheinecker or Ron Flores whichever looks better in the spring.)
This is great...
Sure getting Frank Thomas would add some pop to the lineup but we don't really. I am content with DJ the DH.
Yes, I would rather see him at first and and Swish in right with Bradley in left and Payton out of the green and gold, but we will be fine without it.
Imagine this lineup
- Kendall C (R)
- Kotsay CF (L)
- Bradley LF (S)
- Chavez 3rd (L)
- Thomas DH (R)
- Johnson 1st (L)
- Crosby SS (R)
- Swisher RF (S)
- Ellis 2nd (R)
