In reviewing last year's season a few things are quite clear.
A) This team had no DH to speak of:
Hatte gave it all he had, and there just wasn't anything left in the tank.
A Healthy/Semi Healthy Frank Thomas playing in 120-134 games would produce twice the output that we received from the DH spot alone.
Now, what IF Thomas goes down to injury?
Easy, DJ moves to DH and Swish moves to 1B with Payton, Kotsay and Milton in the OF.
B) Glynn, Etherton and Kennedy were a significant dropoff from Harden:
By keeping everyone in place and adding rubber armed Esteban Loaiza the team can sustain one injury to a starting pitcher much better.
C) The team had no power to speak of:
Thomas and Bradley represent, not only high OBP upgrades over Charles Thomas/Ginter/Hatteberg/Kielty et al, they also add up to 40 more home runs to the team over that group.
In a game where injuries can determine a season for you, I see Billy sticking to his guns as to why this team failed last year. He has always said it was because of injury.
This year's team, with the addition of The Big Hurt would be as close to injury proof as possible.
