A's 2006 Schedule Released

The A's have released their tentative 2006 schedule.

Some of the highlights include:

  • An opening home series against the Evil Empire.  It should be a very good yardstick right off the bat how our A's will perform in 2006.  It's their only home series against the Yankees in 2006.  The other two are in the Bronx.
  • The A's don't play Boston until late July.  They play the Red Sox in three series in 2006 with two of them being at the Coliseum.
  • The A's take on the Paul DePodesta-less LA Dodgers in June at home.  As a matter of fact, the A's take on the NL West this season, which should help their travel wear and tear.  No trips to Pittsburgh or Philadelphia are needed.  The NL West was also the worst division in baseball last season, so this could help the A's excel in interleague once again.
  •  The first series against the hated Angels is April 21-23.  The A's have six series with the Angels and once again finish with the division rivals the final series of the season.  This time, the series is at Angel Stadium.  So, perhaps the A's can finally celebrate a division championship on their field.

12:35am game vs. KC
Sounds like fun ;-)

Seriously you'd think they'd at least double check what they put on the website.

Road Trip!
Any other east coasters want to go on a Boston-Baltimore-Detroit trip after the all-star break in July?

Let's see.
April 12, at Minnesota, 7:10 pm. Skip a couple classes, drive the 4 hours up there, go the game, get back at around 3 am, and go to class the next morning. Sounds like a plan.

But seriously. They get my hopes up by playing at Minnesota in April AND September, but what do I see? A Tues/Wed/Thurs series and a Mon/Tues/Wed series. Of course. That Wednesday one might actually be doable... then I just have to find some crazy person to go with me. ;)

A little off the subject, but I spoke to Marty Lurie today, and he told me starting this Friday at 6PM he will start a weekly hot stove league show for the next 14 weeks. It will broadcast on KYCY 1550 AM. It should be fun to have a baseball fix, please listen I'm sponsoring part of it!!

attendance takes a small hit
by hosting the Yanks for the opener.  It would be a sellout anyway, without the NYers as visitors.  But it'll be very interesting to see if they stick to the "no view level" policy; that game will be a test right off the bat.

Another attendance hit
The April 3-4-5 series is the yankers' only visit to Oaktown in 2006.  Gee, thanks, Bud.

Why do they always do this...
... schedule the A's at home to open the season in a night game that conflicts with the NCAA basketball championship game?

Seems to happen almost every year that the A's open at home.
