With practically identical lines:
A-Rod - .321/.421/.610/130 RBIs
Papi - .300/.397/.604/148 RBIs

A-Rod nipped Papi for the hardware.
He took 16 of 28 first place votes and edged Papi by 24 points for his second consecutive MVP.

Neither player was ranked lower than third and Vlad got the one remaining 1st place vote.

I, for one, would like to applaud the BBWA for getting a close call right. Perhaps that's the key - they don't want to vote for an obvious winner (Clemens, Santana) so they blow the easy ones. Perhaps they just don't know pitching.

I don't know, but, with virtually identical stats - the fact that A-Rod plays defense (although not anywhere near as well as he did at short) should be considered a big advantage in his candidacy. Good job writers, good job.
