AFL Championship on at 12pm PST

The Arizona Fall League Championship is taking place right now, at noon PST.  You can follow it via serveral links given on the milb.com homepage -- a free video feed (it cuts in and out, but at least it's baseball that we can watch in November!), a more stable audio-only broadcast, or the real-time (almost) Gameday browser.

The A's Phoenix Desert Dogs team is represented, and they're hoping to defend last year's title.  Andre Ethier is the only A in the starting lineup.

I just tuned in and it sounds okay so far.  Going into the bottom of the 8th with PHX up 4-1.

I just got disconnected :-(

so who won?
And what role if any did the A's prospects play?

by OaklandSi on Nov 12, 2005 2:40 PM PST reply actions

A's
Up until I stopped following in the 7th or 8th Ethier was 0-3 with a strikeout, he started the game.  Barton PH for the DH and came up with an RBI single for their 4th run of the game.

Furthermore
Ethier finished the game 1-4 with an RBI.
Barton finished 2-2 with an RBI.
Shawn Komine pitched a scoreless inning striking out two and and walking none.

Phoenix wins the championship 9-3.

Why ...
Why are our minor leaguers so "clutch" yet our major leaguers are 0-9 in clinchers? The RiverCats win every year, our AA team won this year, our AFL guys won this year ... all good ... but when is it gonna translate to the major league level?

And spare me the no such thing as clutch stuff; I know ... I'm just airing some frustration.

Crapshoot
I think the rivercats choked this year though.

Sacramento
In the PCL Pacific Championship series the Cats took a 2-0 lead in the best of 5 series and went on to lose the final 3 games, the final two in the 10th inning.

Sign them up!
They'll be perfect Oakland A's, then!

Let me guess...
... did one of those losses involve a runner who didn't slide getting tagged out at home?
