Link Dump Oct 19: Thanks and Goodbye, Bill

What a day. I'm glad there was a place like AN to just gather and take in the news.

Bay Area's superstar sportscaster
Bill King, who described in his distinctive rapid-fire style some of the greatest moments in Bay Area sports history and connected with generations of local sports fans, has died. King, 78, died in San Leandro Hospital early Tuesday morning.

The man behind the mike
There should have been a book about Bill King. A great, thick, fascinating, hilarious, overwhelming book written about the life of a man who lived several of them. The author should have been Bill King, as told to anybody he wanted. (Ratto)

Longtime A's radio announcer Bill King dies (AP)
Longtime Oakland Athletics radio voice Bill King, whose signature call of ``Holy Toledo!'' was a household phrase for decades in the Bay Area, died early Tuesday from complications following hip surgery. He was 78. The A's said King died at a hospital in San Leandro, after undergoing surgery Friday for an injury sustained earlier this year.
