Am I Missing Something?

Allright AN, heres my issue. Can everyone all repeat at once: "We will not sign a big name free agent!" PLEASE. There is no chance that we have the flexibility (nor would it be economically prudent)to sign Konerko, Piazza, or Carlos Lee. Beane is way to smart to get into a huge stakes card game for a high risk player. Remember folks, we're gonna miss the playoffs by single digits; the sky is not falling on us.

My predictions for the offseason. There is no way Zito is traded. First of all, his stock has still dropped. Ignore the fact that his ERA is 3.8 (which is decent mind you) and he is still not that desireable by virtue of the 8.5 mill hes gettin next year and the fact that he'll be a free agent. I'd venture as far as to say that a package of meyer and cruz would be MORE desireable. Anyway, lets not forget the incredible season that durazo had two years ago. I think that the name of the game with the two gusy we SHOULD bring back is quickness. Both durazo and dotel are in unique situations where nobility and honor play into contracts. Dotel has said he'd pitch for free (as spur of the moment as it was) and durazo would still be a welcome improvement at the DH. However, if BB doesn't strike fast with two incentive laden contracts, someone like JP or DePod will. (well, ok the Dodgers would not sign durazo....) I'm sure that dotel would not have a problem setting up again, and that would give us another huge strike out machine in the pen.

As hard as it is to seem now, if any season in the past few years has warrented little change its this one. There is no need for radicalism this year. (although for the record I would love to see Konerko or Dunn in an A's uniform)

Another thing. I'd like to see what Meyer has to offer out of the pen. I'm fairly sure that Flores and Meyer could handle the loogy spots, giving BB more flexibility for Kennedy.
