Open Thread: Game 161 - A's at Seattle

On the plus side, in this season's 161st game, no hearts will be broken. (Was Darin Erstad's double solely responsible for my sudden and inexplicable fear of prime numbers?) Joe Blanton, 11-12 despite sporting a top-10 worthy 3.55 ERA, is trying to even his record for the season. He is opposed by Jeff Harris, who is trying to get someone to care.

After the game, stay tuned for my heartwarming tribute to A's Traveling Secretary Mickey Morabito, who will be thanked for his heroic perseverance in finding the lowest flights on Expedia.com while silently fighting through carpal tunnel syndrome.

Today's starting lineups:

Ellis
Kendall
Kotsay
Chavez
Payton
Johnson
Hatteberg
Swisher
Scutaro

Ichiro
Betancourt
Ibanez
Sexson
Beltre
Dobbs
Lopez
Bubela
Rivera

It's "Repetitive Stress Injury."  All ANers are probably familiar with the injury.

They are both affected
by typing, no? The people I know who suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome can't type long without pain. Same with RSI, in which typing is also often the culprit.

Actually, I'm not sure
I thought they were the same thing, but I could be wrong.  Either way, the repetetive stress on my carpal tunnels is causing me injury.

Anybody know what channel the game is on?
There is crazy confusion on this. The article says FSN, the website says KICU, and my TiVo can't find it at all. Can someone help?

game on tv
the game was supposed to be on kicu but they took it off they said because they wanted to leave it open for espn. guess kicu thought we might have had a chance at the end. i had called because there was an error of another game that was supposed to be on and wasnt. they showed a game a day that wasnt on schedule so the game i was emailing about they took off.

Oh
And they had 'em loaded with one out and couldn't get the tying run in.  Sound familiar?

I'm telling you,
Cleveland is the A's this year. All the more reason to think they'll miss the playoffs by one game. If they lose and the Yankees don't blow a 4-run lead in the 9th, the Yankees will clinch the AL East today--a good reason to wear black throughout October.
Nico

No kidding
Bradford pitching for Boston now.

Cleveland really reminds me of Oakland too, which is why I will cheer for them in the playoffs, should they make it.

Stupid TV
There is only two games left and they can't show the game on TV, what the hell is that! On KICU there is some dumb movie, on FSN is a football game that is going to end soon! What is the problem here? I am too much of a visual person to sit and listen to the radio! I want it on TV! <sobs>

Nope
The Indians need to win tomorrow and hope Boston loses to force a one-game playoff to decide the WC.  If Boston wins, they win the WC.

So that means that the Yankees are for sure in it if they win today? I hate that thought! I don't like Boston, But I HATE the Yankees!

playoff scenarios
My understanding, assuming Rivera doesn't give up 4 runs in the ninth here:
Yankees win the east.
If Boston loses, Cleveland wins, and then Cleveland wins 1-game playoff: Yankees/Indians, White Sox/Angels.
All other scenarios: Yankees/Angels, Sox/Sox
The revolution starts now.

by andeux on Oct 1, 2005 1:40 PM PDT   0 recs

Ugh!
The Indians have to get in. I'm not confident with the White Sox and that Yankee/Angels matchup is making me twitch.

I may end up rooting for no one in the AL.

Ok, I don't listen to the radio show often...
But I am listening to it today and I listened on Thursday.

Bill King is BUGGIN ME!! He seems to get a sick pleasure out of the A's failing! He gets a little too excited when we strike out or blow a play or the other team scores a run.

Is this just me or is he really a punk?

no offense
it's just he's so awesome--one of the best ever, a potential Hall-of-Famer.  He gets excited on all big plays, whether the impact is good or bad for the A's--he comes from the school that says you're supposed to sound relatively unbiased.

<Hides Head>
Sorry, Didn't know I would offend so many! It just made me really mad when he sounded almost GIDDY that Swisher went down! I understand the whole unbiased thing, but really! You are an A's Announcer! Try and not sound so happy when they do something bad!

Yanks/Sox last year
was riveting baseball.  But I just hate seeing ESPN's best drooling over the matchup.  So if they both make the playoffs, then Go White Sox and, weird as it sounds, Go Anaheim!

Never, ever root for the Angels.

by baseballnut020 on Oct 1, 2005 1:47 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

You know...
The Yanks will do whatever they can to make sure the Red Sox miss the playoffs, so I'm hoping for a Yanks win and an Indians win tomorrow.  Then an Indians win on Monday.

Go Indians!

by baseballnut020 on Oct 1, 2005 1:45 PM PDT   0 recs

Since the Yankees are in for sure
I may just be doing the same. I want the Indians in it so I can actually have an AL team to root for!
