Mano a Mano
Well, it's down to this. Three games, winner of the series gets the reward of facing the Red Sox or Yankees in the first round of the playoffs.
If I told you at the beginning of the season that The Big Three would have a chance to lock up a playoff spot in the final weekend of the season, would you take it?
I know I would've. Yes, the pitchers have struggled, but remember these are the horses that have taken us there before.
And the Angels pitchers will be going on three days rest...each.
If the A's offense can score some freaking runs, our boys could still be playing next week.

That's All We Can Ask For
Scoiscia's gamble and today's surprise
I mentioned last night that we had a couple of advantages: home field, and Scoscia's four-man rotation.
The offense was still lousy today. We just managed to get the right kind of hits (run-scoring double, homer, homer).
I was a little surprised by Durazo's absense from the lineup. Did he have bad numbers against Franklin?
Much credit to today's pitchers. Redman came through when none of us thought he would. Rincon threw two shutout innings. Bradford and Dotel were both fine. They deserve the credit for today's win, along with Bobby Crosby.
It's a good thing Crosby can't bunt.
Today was an unexpected and heartening boost all around. Anaheim lost when the Rangers were playing several light-hitting scrubs and had R.A. Dickey as a closer. We won on a day when Redman pitched at home and we got a grand total of five hits.
Mulder still shouldn't be starting tomorrow. But if Redman can surprise me, maybe Mark can too.
Durazo has sore wrist
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/wire?section=mlb&id=1892253
He is nursing a sore wrist from yesterday.
Tomorrow's game is the most important
The A's lose and the opposite happens.
It'll be interesting to see how Colon pitches on three days rest.

MORE aggressive?!?
Can you imagine Bad Vlad even more aggressive than he already is? Scary.

My lucky Miguel jersey worked!
During the Baltimore series when Miggy said, "Those guys don't need me any more, they got a great one." and that he watched and pulled for his old team, I knew his jersey would be good luck for Crosby.
I ain't EVER taking this son of a bitch off till we WIN it all.

from low to high!
i'll be at all 3 games this weekend in my green and gold, blowing my horn in support!
Let's go OAK-LAND!!!!!
don't start saying that the postseason has started
somebody needs to sneak into their houses and change all the calendars to "august"
The Big Three
We can't underestimate the power of the fans in the ballpark. The Big Three will pitch in top form under this spotlight, especially Zito. They should play well to the packed ballpark and Crosby's walk-off homer is a preview of a resurgent offence.
The A's also can turn to Harden in late innings if needed this weekend.
(Thanks for this great site Blez.)

Washington Senators
That's good news for the A's staying in Oakland, I think; Schott and Hoffman can squeeze a nickel tighter than anyone, and I'm pretty sure they're not going to give Peter Magowan two billion nickels to let the A's move to San Jose.
Chump change
81 home games per year
Ticket prices probable also going up.
81 * M * AveragePricePerSeat ... I bet that $100 million ends up in MLB's coffers in pretty short order.
... and that doesn't include the increased revenue from broadcasting in a better market.

Now There's Something We Can Agree On....
There won't be any payouts under current ownership. I don't see anything wrong with a new stadium in the Coliseum parking lot.
It would be even better if they could somehow point it towrd the Oakland Hills, like the Coliseum used to be before "they" came back.
by LongGone on Sep 30, 2004 6:59 PM PDT up reply actions
I disagree...
The D.C. could lead to a San Jose deal.
Bottom Line: The City of Oakland does not deserve the A's

Playoff Match-up
(If the Twins beat the Yanks tonight, they're a game ahead of Anaheim and Oakland; if they lose, it's a three way tie.)
would we even want the 2-seed?
Not that we're getting ahead of ourselves here or anything.
The Twins
But it's all hypothetical. I don't know what the Twins will do this weekend. More importantly, I don't know if we will even care, depending on the outcome of this weekend's games.
As for the preferred opponent, I don't know. I'm not particularly eager to play either one of them.
Looks like AL West winner will play Boston
Twins were swept by Yankees while A's and Angels were swept by Sox. Twins-Sox and AL West-Yankees match up should be more interesting.
Please go Twins!
Not to get ahead of myself, go A's!

Well...
Bobby Crosby is my hero. Heck of a kid.
AMAZING!!
My friend text messaged me that they had won, I almost jumped up and screamed!!
This is really great... I am soooooooo proud of Crosby, as I have been all season.
BTW, as a funny note, someone actually tried convincing me that Bubba Crosby (of the Yanks) was as good as, or even better than, our Bobby!! ~I chose to ignore them!!
I agree with everyone that wants Bobby as Rookie of the Year... there's no question about it!!

After last night's loss...
Well, great thing the opposite happened. :D
Feel much better now.
As for this game, great job by Redman. For some reason I was very optimistic about him starting a day home game ;)
Crosby came up BIG! Now if the rest of the A's bats can find life. It was painful watching the A's make Franklin look like Cy Young.

Scared to see the attendance figures this weekend
(Which, historically, isn't bad at all. It's sad that some very important baseball people seem to have short term memories. Can you imagine what it would be like if the A's drew 336,000 like they did for the entire 1979 season?!?)
Here's hoping they draw at least 35,000+ for the last three games.

Idunno...
I've spoke many times on this blog throughout this season how the A's seemed to lack that "Magic" that has been such a big part of the previous 4 years.
But today, against all probability and recent history, when the forces of evil had amassed to thier most wicked endeavor and the flame had done all but it's final fatal flicker, the young Padawan who has become known as "Croz" transformed the Coliseum back once again into that wonderous cataclysm of kharma we all know and love with one mighty swing of his sabre.
The stage has now been finally set for the most magical moment of all, and the script could not have been written any better by George Lucas than it has now been done by the baseball gods themselves.
May the Force be with us all...go A's.
So cool

hong kong!
i'll be at all three games!
fans shouldn't be going to just one, but two or three. this is what it's all about, folks.
i'm a little more optimistic about attendance, i think people will show up. the crosby walk off alone should bring a few extra thousand.
i'm more worried about the a's offense. even if mulder figures it all out, the entire team is being out-hit by vlad...
Man I
GO A's!!!!!!
Good news!
