WeÂ've had a rough couple of days. Recent events have made many fans feel betrayed, upset, and dare I say, questioning their faith in the American pastime. Therefore, IÂ'd like to take a moment to discuss something so pure and beautiful, that no rump cream (clear or otherwise) can tarnish. I am talking about someone I consider an example of what is so wonderful about baseball: the Super Fan. After reading the Best of the Net section, IÂ'd like take a few moments to talk about someone that brings me such joy: the older gentleman who waves his pom poms with unwavering enthusiasm in the 3rd Deck and left field bleachers.
Does anyone know anything about him? BatGirl brought this up in her comments about her favorites. He wears a giant novelty foam AÂ's hat, which I think resembles more of a stove pipe hat ala Lincoln than the cowboy hat BatGirl spoke of. He also dons the most glorious tube socks imaginable: one green, one yellow. He then tirelessly sways and jogs in place the entire game waving his pom poms. (It must be added that this gentleman is increased in years and must be lauded for his stamina as much as his waving).
So if anyone knows anything about this enigma wrapped in a yellow tube sock and stuffed in a foam hat please let me know. Or, if youÂ'd like to discuss your favorite fan that would be great too! I think we could use some cheeriness on this Friday.
