Trade Idea

If we are looking for another big bat, why not deal Hudson or Zito to the White Sox for Konerko...  here's what I envision:

ChiSox give up:  Konerko, Marte, Garland
A's give up:  Hatteberg, Rincon, Hudson

I'm not sure how the dollars work out (or how long each person is signed), but we'd get a big right-handed bat, they'd get a left-handed bat and the "ace" they've been trying to get all winter.

Someone may have already mentioned this idea, but it just came to me while I was taking my morning coffee break.

konerko makes around 8 the last time i checked and he's near his thirties...  this proposal isn't gonna to knock anyone's socks off.  with that said, the sox should consider hatteberg, so we can get rid the money.  hatteberg for hmmm... i can't find anyone besides rowland.

No Way
Konerko costs too much and we dont have any need at 1B. Garland is a lousy 5th pitcher, and Marte is a great set up man, but i'll take my chances on Street before I do something like that.

Costs
Konerko costs $1M more than Hudson -- you get rid of Rincon's salary (~$2M) and Hatteberg (~$2.5M) and you add Garland's salary (~$3M) and Marte's (~$1M).  Basically, the money's a wash.

I'd take upgrades at 1B (Konerko for Hatteberg), and in our pen (Marte for Rincon) and a downgrade in the rotation (Hudson for Garland); plus, we'd add that right-handed bat we want so much.  Also -- if we don't want Garland, throw in another ChiSox pitching prospect.  And -- maybe we could get Kenny "The Knucklehead" Williams to throw in some dough.  Konekro's a FA after this year, so that'd come off our books and clear room for Johnson.

I don't actually like this deal all this much (because it doesn't help us long-term), but the money's not really an issue.
