Topics on the table include:
- The A's being named Organization of the Year by Topps (one of these years it's going to result in a WS victory).
- Scott Hatteberg's future-should Billy try to move him as part of the Hudson package to make room for Dan Johnson? (given it's his birthday today - he's exactly two years older than me, so Happy 35th Scott).
- Anything else that comes to mind.

I LOVE our multicultural community here! :-)
Ah, una mexicana, Blez tiene mucha suerte ...
Happy birthday, blez!
I looked up the "organization of the year" award and couldn't find the Topps one, but I found the "Baseball America" list, and found that 3 of the 18 teams that have won it have won a World Championship within five years of doing so.
Twelve of the winners in those years have never won a world championship during the time period of the award.
Oh and happy birthday to Mr. Hatteberg, too, the most stylishly dressed of all our Oakland A's.
So you're trying to say...
And also;
-Happy Birthday Belz and Christmas tidings to the Blezinski famliy, that inlcludes little Erubielita.

Happy B-day Blez! I share my birthday w/ Zito. Both in '78, actually. Also had the exact same birthday as an old girlfriend. what are the odds???...
Re: Hatty
I fully expect him to play out his contract with the A's and then make a move into management if he feels like he's done playing. Billy loves the guy and I think he'd be a good fit in that type of roll. And the rest of baseball isn't nearly as high on him as our org is so there's no way we could move him. Johnson is easily 5 times as likely to get moved as Hatteberg. I'm not saying I like that thought... I'm just saying that's the reality we're faced with.
Re: Huddy
I've been cruising around the web for a bit while I wait for some long jobs to finish up at work and I read through a thread on a Dodger blog about the Huddy/Jackson rumors. Has some interesting insite about the trade from the Dodger perspective as well as some clues about what the real prize might be (Joel Guzman).
Speculation, same as what we see here, but still interesting:

Scotty in 2005?
As for Rincón, if the new lefty and/or Rhinecker could possibly fill the LOOGY role they would certainly be cheaper. But that's a big if...
Shortage
Blez
I like Hatty but at this point in his career I think he's better suited to coming off the bench. We need to see if DJ can do anything.

Hatty's not done as a starter.
Stop posting Billy's resume fillers
But Topps? who cares. World Series or bust. Just cause we small market doesn't mean we have to think like a small market. Leave those organizational awards to like Pittsburgh or something.

Happy Birthday Blez
Good luck with your "all the drugs under the sun" plan. The epideral has saved many a marriage including my own.
On to baseball!
I see Hatty as a good fit in Toronto or LA. And can we trade Keilty if one of the Big 3 goes? Free up the roster space and some money and get an outfield back-up who can actually hit.
Hatteberg
Hatteberg
Nobody knows if Johnson can hit in the bigs, and he is not a good fielder, why would anyone give us a great prospect for a 35 years old Hatteberg?
He is fine where he is, and in a year, maybe two Johnson or someone else will come along. I see Johnson replacing Durazo in a year or two.

I agree
by davebenfremont on Dec 15, 2004 12:08 AM PST up reply actions
Hatteberg is undervalued....
By all means, keep Johnson on the roster as a backup 1st basemen/DH and see how he does while Ron Washington works on his defense. But to trade Hatteberg and toss Johnson in there as a rookie starter is likely to be a disaster (anyone remember Carlos Pena?).

happy b-day
it's belated, but happy b-day blez.
mrs. blez, you rock the party -- willing to take pain for a WS championship.
you know, when we win it all next year, it'll be because erubielita brought us luck, so you guys will have to get working on little chavezita soon after. ;)
as for hatty, i don't see why so many are so quick to want him gone. sure, he wore down late in the season, but considering the other people making similar money in the league, i like his production level. a lot. there was a period there when he threw the team on his back too. i say platoon him with DJ.

Happy Birthday! :)
I was looking over my fantasy baseball team from last year and I realized still how crazy I am about Mark Teixeira. Let's steal him for the A's this year. Play him at second.
Now how do we get Texas to agree? :)

Happy belated Blez!
And also, I think it's really funny that regardless of what you guys name your daughter, she will always be known to the thousands at AN as "Erubielita!" I can just see it now, when she's about 3 and really able to start understanding things, at the "4th Annual AN day at the ballpark"....she has this really perplexed look on her face all day because everyone has been saying "Hi Erubielita", and "it's nice to finally meet you Erubielita!" "I remember you when you were just a glimmer in your daddy's webpage!!!"
Oh please don't do that to my poor baby girl

Happy Birthday Blez...Selig is finished!
If this DC baseball thing falls through and MLB winds up with mucho egg on its face, this makes the All Star Game controversy look like a walk in the park.
In short, Selig's done!
